This colorful print evokes how we feel here at Hive & Hollow. We are surrounded by beauty, yet the world burns around us - navigating that space is surreal at best, some days impossible. Through portraits and still life paintings, Lindsey envisions a future beyond binaries - encouraging us to take up space, embrace play and imagine the possibilities to construct a better world. This is a 9" x 12" unframed print.
Why we stock this artist: Lindsey Cherek Waller (they/she) is a queer, non-binary artist who centers her art around pleasure and joy. She is also a UW Stout grad, and a lovely human. We knew her when she lived here. Menomonie got a little duller when she moved away.
Lindsey now makes art in Charlotte, North Carolina, and around the world.
A stunning botanical coloring book featuring elegant flower illustrations that combine Victorian floral symbolism and botanical art for a beautifully relaxing coloring experience. Inspired by Jessica Roux's bestselling Floriography, this enchanting coloring book invites you into the captivating world of Victorian floral symbolism. Color exquisite botanical illustrations of dahlias, foxgloves, hyacinths, hellebores, herbs, and dozens of other beloved blooms while discovering the fascinating messages each flower was once used to express. Every page offers an opportunity to slow down, express your creativity, and deepen your appreciation for nature's beauty.
A charming, gorgeously illustrated botanical encyclopedia for your favorite romantic, local witch, bride-to-be, or green-thumbed friend. Floriography is artist and illustrator Jessica Roux’s full-color guide to the historical uses and secret meanings behind an impressive array of flowers and herbs. The book explores the coded significances associated with close to 100 blooms, from flowers for a lover to flowers for an enemy. The language of flowers soared in popularity during the 19th century, especially in Victorian England and the U.S., when proper etiquette discouraged open displays of emotion. Mysterious and playful, the language of flowers has roots in everything from the characteristics of the plant to its presence in folklore and history.

We've stocked this brand since our inception because the botanical representations are such a natural fit, and because it is a US-based, woman-owned company. Kate Faulk. was always fascinated by the birds, insects, and strange little things she found growing up on a farm in the south. Now, as a vintage book lover, she scouts antique stores, estate sales, and markets to find the most unique scientific illustrations from the 1600s to the 1920s.

Beautifully designed and visually captivating, Flora is arranged thematically by the trees, flowers, fruit, vegetables, spices, grasses, grains, and vines which have served as a root for artistic inquiry across time. Brief, informative profiles of each plant are woven together with key works of art, mythology, and other ancient and contemporary sources, bringing each plant into more focus through its interpretations across time.
Readers wishing to find information about specific plants can consult a detailed plant index, or they can read the book cover to cover, luxuriating over each page, providing a space to turn whenever we need a reminder of the connection between our natural world and the creative spirit.
