About Hive & Hollow:
Hive & Hollow was founded in 2018 by Sarah Freeman, but has since grown into a true collaborative effort of a handful of incredible creatives and co-conspirators. We are a Menomonie-based gift and flower shop with a focus on nourishing our community, our farmers, and our planet. Our wedding and event services encompass Minneapolis, Saint Paul, Eau Claire, and any areas in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
After decades working in the floral industry and at the helm of a fast-paced event florist in NE Minneapolis called 'Sassafras', Sarah Lambert-Freeman sought out a way to do flowers differently- slow, local (as much as possible) if not fair trade, and unabashedly untamed. She moved with her family to 5 acers along the Red Cedar, at the tip of the driftless.
A few short years Hive & Hollow was born as a little flower shop offering local gifts and flowers from Sarah's own gardens and those of other nearby farmers in an effort to create a low-footprint flower shop in what is an incredibly dirty industry.
After outgrowing our little shop on the corner, we moved to downtown Menomonie where we still offer locally grown flowers, truly one-of-a-kind gifts, and our store has extended to become a place where people can stay a while where we have a glorious bar serving up craft cocktails, and a rocking wine list.
Beyond everyday floral for whatever you are celebrating, we have an incredible team of designers crafting wild, authentic, and beautiful arrangements, sourced locally, and with intention. We are just waiting to level up your wedding, event, window display, or wildest dream in the making, whatever it may be. Our kick-ass services expand beyond our little corner of the Midwest we are also available to book for travel, and you will not regret working with us.
Our Store
Our shop is a dreamy refuge from reality, located in historic downtown Menomonie across from the Mabel Tainter Theater, a gorgeous local landmark with a storied past. We carefully curate our collection of gifts from independent makers and artists, vintage finds and of course, plants and cut flowers. Our historic 1930’s bar is the perfect hideaway to enjoy a french press, a french 75, a perfectly balanced mocktail, or an incredible glass of wine.
Our Farm
Just outside of Menomonie on the Red Cedar River is our Hive & Hollow Farm. Since 2012, we have worked to repair this plot of sandy, acidic soil and restore the native ecosystems. In so doing, we have been able to provide our store (and our couples) with gorgeous blooms from the first signs of spring to the last harvest of fall. The more we can source directly from our farm, the less that we have to outsource, and the smaller our carbon footprint.
